Cross It

We all bear burdens. I do believe that is is part of the human condition. However, it is the way we carry these burdens that affects us the most. Believe in yourself to the point of ascension. Know that no burden can weigh you down unless you allow it. Know that you can cross any troublesome sea. I have faith in you.

-Faith

I see you in a row boat.
In a sea of pain and fear.
In a sea of sorrow.
Everywhere around you is more water.
More worry.
And your arms are tired.
You're hungry.
You're thirsty.
And there is no nourishment around.
All you have is the sound of your thoughts.
"I'll never make it out."
The waves are more choppy than calm.
You are soooo exhausted.
There are even splinters in your palms,
from gripping your oars so tightly.

"But only if I had help...
I can't call for a rescue,
I have to do this on my own.
I can't fit anyone else in this boat. I can't let anyone know what is going on. They will think I'm weak. They might try to stop me. Break my oars or take them away. I might be safer if I stay away... from everyone... but it's so dark and I am alone."

But the darkness is your throne! We are taught to be afraid of it, the dark. It covers your royal frame. It's written all over your name. You are powerful. You are all encompassing. You are a leader to many daughters and sons. You will row over waves of depression, waves of being seen as unintelligent, waves of memories of mistreatment during your adolescence. You will row ashore and claim the land that is truly yours....

You will. My spirit tells me everyday. Your spirit calls for me. It says I need you, but your mouth never heeds you.

Yet, I see you....
With the wind whipping me.
With smeared eye liner.
I see you in that sea.
With worrisome eyes.
I know you see me.
A face full of want for your survival.
For a life full of joy.
For things you are entitled.

And when you step ashore,
And check out the lush land,
And feel the soft sand,
I know you'll release all your worries in a great roar.
And you'll finally be open to get all of the love you've been yearning for.....

Open your eyes.
Dot your i's.
Cross your t's.
Cross the sea that is your truth.
It's ain't nothing but a small sea.
Don't fear what's beneath.
Break this world's view of a curse.
What's a sea to the universe?

Cross it.

    Faith Underwood, Curator

     Writer. Poet. Lover.

I'm sure that poetry was my first writing love.
It was already in me and then I ran into, Nikki.
Nikki Giovanni, and maybe a little Sister Soldier.
Such beautiful words. The flows, behold her.
My love for words and rhymes increased as I grew.
While listening to the realest Lauryn Hill,
And a whole bunch of Erykah Badu.
My writing hands were sprinkled with tunes of Aaliyah.
    And Alicia. And Anita Baker.
Missy Elliot was the hottest on the block.
Singing is it the way to my words..
    Like the songstress Jill Scott.
TLC bodied the sexy in me.

So I now bring my own words of inspiration. Words of meditation. Words to get you thinking bout that night. Words to help you feel alright. Words to... share parts of me. I pray that you receive them readily.

    FAITH U.
