Back In the City

 I have not been fond of reading my own work aloud. I'm not quite sure why. Maybe it has been fear, but we know we shouldn't move forward in  fear.  So, here is a video of me practicing, lol. I was inspired to write about my city last week. Here's  a poem about Macon, GA. 

Back in the city. 
Ma from Pleasant Hill.
Daddy from Bloomfield.
My auntie was a Sweetwine. 
My granddaddies; a carpenter and a vet.
My grandmothers, I am a H like them. I guess we have our own set.
Helen, Henrietta, Hilary. 
Macon Teens.
Baby black queen.
87 made me. 
Sherrill Mo trained me.
Southwest taught me.
Not too many sought me.
I was never the average.
Somehow went from Beech Avenue to making my dreams come true. 
With books on my back. Stashed in my backpack. And a tool or two. They all gotta TRIGGER too. 
Don't get jelly cause I work hard boo. 

Lil Macon baby.
Making waves and plays baby.
Cooking up soufflés baby.
Umma be writing screenplays baby...
